Bear Creek Falls

4.5 Miles | 1,092 ft Elevation Gain

Bear Creek Falls is a great first hike in Telluride. It begins right at Town Park, winding through groves of aspens and pines until you reach a gorgeous view of an 80-foot waterfall at the summit. This is one of the more popular hikes in town, so we suggest starting early for peak tranquility.

Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail

3.4 Miles | 1,233 ft Elevation Gain

The challenging Jud Wiebe Memorial Trail is one of the most popular hikes in town, and for good reason. In just a little over three miles, you’ll experience some of the most beautiful vistas Telluride has to offer. It’s a steep ascent and a narrow trail, but you can’t beat the views, and it’s easily accessible right from town. 

Ajax Peak

10.6 Miles | 3,887 ft Elevation Gain

Towering above town, Ajax Peak is a must-do hike in Telluride for those seeking a challenge. The trail leads through many switchbacks up a steep alpine meadow and mountainside before reaching Ingham Falls, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Bridal Veil Falls

2 Miles | 859 ft Elevation Gain

Considered one of the most iconic hikes in Telluride, Bridal Veil Falls takes hikers up a moderate rocky incline to the base of a stunning waterfall. There are viewpoints all along the ascent for taking in the stunning scenery. Parking can be a challenge in peak season, so we recommend getting an early start to the day.

Blue Lake Via Bridal Veil Falls

If you’re feeling energized after Bridal Veil Falls, continue on to Blue Lake for a 5.9 mile round-trip hike. After following a creek up through the canyon, you’ll reach a gorgeous glacial lake encircled by mountains at the summit. Keep an eye out for the historical mining equipment present around the lake, and the seasonal waterfalls flowing from above.

Telluride River Trail

4.1 Miles | 252 ft Elevation Gain

If you’re looking for a casual way to get outside and explore Telluride’s beautiful scenery, the Telluride River Trail is the hike for you. This trail follows the stunning San Miguel River all the way from town to the Bridal Veil Falls trailhead, so more avid hikers could combine the two for a full day activity. Along the way, you’ll pass beaver ponds, areas for fishing, and easy access points to the river.

Telluride Via Ferrata

3 Miles | 1,243 ft Elevation Gain

Looking for something more extreme? Telluride’s Via Ferrata is a popular choice for adrenaline junkies craving a more intense outdoor excursion. Part hike, part rock climbing, this is a challenging trail that culminates in stunning views of Ingram Peak and the valley below. If you attempt the Via Ferrata, it’s crucial that you have the proper gear and preparation. Consider booking a guide if this is your first time.
