Curate Good: The Telluride Volunteer Fire Department

Supporting the responders who protect Telluride—every day, in every season.

Telluride Volunteer Fire Department

At Curate Telluride, we believe short-term rentals can do more than provide incredible stays to our guests—they can make a meaningful impact in the community and environment where we live, work, and recreate. Through Curate Good, our community giving initiative, we donate 1% of our earned commission revenue to local nonprofits, matched by a 1% donation of rental revenue from participating homeowners. Together, we’re giving back to Telluride and supporting the community that makes our existence possible.

Whether it’s supporting local arts, youth sports, animal welfare, or social services, there’s a reason our mission is to lead with relentless generosity—because when we give back, the whole community is stronger.

About the Telluride Volunteer Fire Department

Telluride Volunteer Fire Department in action

Established in 1878, the Telluride Volunteer Fire Department (TVFD) has been serving the Telluride community for nearly 150 years, providing critical emergency response services in one of the most challenging mountain environments in the country.

TVFD firefighters respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous conditions, and disaster situations—protecting both residents and visitors year-round. Their work is foundational to the safety and well-being of the Telluride region and deeply rooted in a long tradition of volunteer service.

Serving Our Mountain Community, Around the Clock

While the Telluride Fire Protection District was formally established in 1966 to oversee fire and emergency services across the region, the Telluride Volunteer Fire Department predates the district by nearly a century. Today, TVFD operates as a core part of the district’s emergency response system, working alongside career staff and partner departments.

The district currently staffs two primary stations and relies heavily on volunteer firefighters to serve rural and outlying areas. In a region defined by steep terrain, extreme weather, and seasonal population swings, volunteers play an essential role in keeping response times fast and services reliable.

Why this matters

In a high-altitude mountain town, emergencies are not always simple. Having trained, equipped responders ready to answer the call is part of what makes living—and visiting—Telluride safe and possible.

Powered by Volunteers, Supported by Community

Volunteer firefighters training and community support

TVFD is made up of dedicated volunteers who commit countless hours to training, emergency response, and community preparedness—all while balancing jobs, families, and life in a high-altitude mountain town.

Every contribution helps ensure that when an emergency happens, trained responders are ready to answer the call.
